1987 and 1991, Gilmore was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney of his native Henrico County and then in 1993, he was first elected to statewide office as Virginia’s Attorney General. In the year 1997, he resigned to run for Governor and also joined the law firm of LeClairRyan as a partner.
