In 1999 aged 18, Aaron Mokoena was the youngest ever player to have represented South Africa, he played for the 2000 Summer Olympics qualifiers. He played for South Africa at the 2000 Olympics, where they finished third in Group D. Aaron Mokoena played at the 2002 and 2004 Africa Cup of Nations. In January 2008, Mokoena captained South Africa in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
