Irungu Kang’ata Career
The incumbent Senate Majority Whip, Irungu Kang’ata, was first elected as Councillor for the central award in Murang’ a town in the year 2002 while still a student at the University of Nairobi. After his graduation from the University of Nairobi, he worked for various advocates. In 2009, Kang’ata was employed as a state counsel in the Attorney Generals Chamber.
Irungu later left to establish his law firm. He defended a security guard called Rebecca Kerubo in 2012 after she was assaulted at the village market shopping mall on December 31, 2011, by the then Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza.
Irungu contested for Kiharu parliamentary seat running on a TNA ticket and won after receiving 63,148 votes. He is now the current senator for Murang’ a County a position he took over from Kembi Gitura.
During Jubilee primaries, Irungu defeated Kembi Gitura by garnering 158,167 votes against Kembi’ 146,207 votes.
