She first appeared in the 1980 film Athkiya’ Laken Aghbiya (Smart yet Stupid). Then she has done many different roles with many different looks. She has done comedy, drama and entertainment. Kasr Fi El Hawaa (Castle In the Air) by Abdel Halim Nasr in 1980, Fatah Tabhath Ann Alhob (A Girl Looking for Love) by Nader Galal in 1977, Alf Bossa Wa Bossa (A Thousand and One Kisses) by Mohamed Abdel Aziz in 1977 and Ebtessama Waheda Takfi (One Smile is Enough) by Mohamed Bassiyouni in 1978.

A very important milestone in Yousra’s career was working with the famous Egyptian director Youssef Chahine. She acted in Chahine’s Hadduta Masreya (Egyptian Story) in 1982, Iskanderiya Kaman we Kaman (Alexandria Again and Again) in 1990, and Al Mohager (The Emigrant) in 1994. Yousra was very impressed with Chahine’s work, stating, “Youssef Chahine affected me on a personal and professional level. He is a school for anyone who works with him.”
She has made a number of the serial television dramas popular during Ramadan, including 2005’s Ahlam ‘Adiya (Ordinary Dreams). She portrayed an enterprising con woman in what the English version of Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram called “a major departure from the star’s usual Ramadan screen persona, which has consistently verged on the romantic and the demure.”
In 2006, she took a supporting role in The Yacoubian Building, a star-laden adaptation of the novel of the same name. The film is reported to have had the highest budget of any Egyptian production to date. Playing an entertainer working in a restaurant, Youssra, according to Variety, “effortlessly stirs old emotional waters when she sings ‘La Vie en Rose.'”
Youssra released her first vocal album in 2002.
Her last work includes her role in the Ramadan Series “Saraya Abdein” 2014.
She featured in Abu’s hit single “3 Daqat” in 2017.

CAIRO – 1 September 2018: In honor of her rich artistic history, one of El Gouna city streets was named after the Egyptian superstar Yousra.
Yousra is a superstar Egyptian actress, singer, United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and internationally acclaimed artistic icon. She is one of the most prominent actresses not only in Egypt but in the region as well.
She was born in March 10, 1951 as Sevin Hafez Nesim. In 1980 she performed in her first film “Athkiya’ Laken Aghbiya” (Smart yet Stupid). After she performed in numerous movies such as “Kasr Fi El Hawaa” (Castle In the Air), “Fatah Tabhath Ann Alhob” (A Girl Looking for Love) , “Alf Bossa Wa Bossa” (A Thousand and One Kisses) , “Ebtessama Waheda Takfi” (One Smile is Enough) among others.
Yousra formed a successful duo with the superstar Adel Emam the matter that resulted in a number of successful films that enriched the Egyptian cinema such as “Shabab Yarkoss Fawk Alnar” (Youth Dancing on Fire) , “Al Ensan Yaeesh Mara Waheda” (Man Only Lives Once) , “Ala Bab Al Wazeer” (At the Door of the Minister) , “Al Avocato” (The Lawyer) , “Al Ins Wa Algen” ( The Human and the Goblin) , “Karakoun Fi El Shareih” ( A Police Station in the Street), “Al Mansi” (The Forgotten), “Al Irhab Wal Kaba” (Terrorism and Kebab), “Toyour Al Zalam” (Birds of Darkness), “Bobos” among others.
Yousra was included by Arabian Business among “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Arab Women” and by “The Middle East” among the 50 Most Influential Arabs.
In 2015, she was awarded the Achievement in Cinema award at the Arab Women of the Year ceremony in London.
Throughout her artistic career yousra was granted more than 60 local, regional and international awards, most prominently being honored at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
Yousra cooperation with the internationally acclaimed director Youssef Chahine has influenced much her career.
Among her important movies with Chahine are “Hadduta Masreya” ( An Egyptian Tale),” Iskendereya Kaman we Kaman” ( Alexandria More and More) “Al Mohager “ ( The Immigrant) among others.
After a career spanning 85 films and 20 television series, Yousra started to dedicate some of her efforts to social issues, particularly human trafficking. She engages in humanitarian and advocacy work for women and children.
Yousra participated in the World Economic Forum’s sessions in Switzerland, Jordan and Egypt because of her humanitarian work. She is currently a Goodwill Ambassador for many United Nations institutions, including the United Nations Development Programme, UNAIDS and the joint United Nations program on HIV/AIDS.
She was the honorary president of Cairo International Film festival in 2017.
