Ajay Banga is an Indian-American Sikh business executive. He currently serves as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Mastercard. In April 2010, Mastercard declared that Banga would become president and chief executive officer, effective July 1, 2010, succeeding Robert W. Selander who has served the company for more than two decades. Banga joined the board of directors, active immediately.
Prior to his position as CEO, Banga held the position of its president and chief operating officer. Banga took over from Robert W. Selander, who served as the CEO since March 1997.
President Barack Obama designated Banga to hold the position of member of the President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations in February 2015. Banga serves as the chairman of the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) standing in for more than 300 of the largest international companies investing in India.
He is also among the members of the board of directors of the Dow Chemical Company. Banga is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum. In 2016, the Government of India granted him the civilian honor of Padma Shri.
