Alex Walkinshaw Career
His first TV appearance was as an extra in Grange Hill for a year when he was 12 years old. He starred in the sitcom Side by Side from 1992 to 1993. In the 1990s, in addition to performing, he worked as a labourer, office fitter, and at a snooker venue in Barking.

Grange Hill was Walkinshaw’s first television debut as an extra. He first featured as a guest star in three episodes of The Bill in 1992, 1993, and 1995, before becoming a regular cast member in 1999.
While performing at the Royal Court Theatre, he was seen by one of The Bill’s producers and invited to try for the show. He began his career on The Bill as PC Dale Smith, popularly known as “Smithy,” and left in 2001.
He reappeared in 2003, when his character was promoted to Sergeant. When STV dropped The Bill in Scotland in 2009, Walkinshaw was the final person to appear on Scottish screens alongside Sam Callis as Sgt Callum Stone.
