Alice Cooper Biography-Wiki
Alice Cooper who was born in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.is an American singer, songwriter, and actor whose career spans over 50 years. Cooper is considered by music journalists and peers alike to be “The Godfather of Shock Rock” together with a distinctive raspy voice and a stage show that features numerous props, including guillotines, fake blood, electric chairs, baby dolls, reptiles, and dueling swords.
Cooper has drawn equally from horror films and garage rock to pioneer a macabre and theatrical brand of rock designed to shock people. Cooper is also known for his witty and humorous personality offstage, with The Rolling Stone Album Guide calling him the world’s most “beloved heavy metal entertainer”. Away from music, Cooper is a film actor, a golfing celebrity, a restaurateur, and, since 2004, a popular radio DJ with his classic rock show Nights with Alice Cooper.
Originating in Phoenix, Arizona in 1964, “Alice Cooper” was originally a band consisting of Furnier on vocals and harmonica, Glen Buxton on lead guitar, Michael Bruce on rhythm guitar, Dennis Dunaway on bass guitar, and Neal Smith on drums. The original Alice Cooper band released their debut album in 1969, and broke into the international music mainstream with the 1971 hit song “I’m Eighteen”.
The band reached their commercial peak in 1973 with their sixth studio album, Billion Dollar Babies. The band broke up in 1975 and Furnier adopted the band’s name as his own name, beginning his solo career with the 1975 concept album Welcome to My Nightmare.
Expanding from his Detroit rock roots, Cooper has experimented with a number of musical styles, including art rock, hard rock, heavy metal, new wave, glam metal, and industrial rock. He is credited with helping to shape the sound and look of heavy metal, and has been described as the artist who “first introduced horror imagery to rock and roll, and whose stagecraft and showmanship have permanently transformed the genre”.

During an interview with AZ Central Sheryl revealed that she didn’t know who Alice was the first time they met
even much about rock and roll. But when while on the road, a pizza-and-horror-movies party in Cooper’s hotel suite
with the crew proved fateful.
“We were engaged in a conversation that was so much fun I didn’t notice everyone slowly leaving the room.” Their marriage started at a rocky start as Cooper was in the midst of alcohol addiction. In November 1977 Sheryl had
him committed to a rehab facility in New York. His sobriety wasn’t long-lived and in 1983 Sheryl filed for divorce on account of his drinking. They reconciled before the divorce was finalized and Cooper has been sober since then.
In 2011 during an interview with The Guardian Cooper said the secret to his long-time marriage to Sheryl is because he has never cheated.

“When you’re presented with, ‘Hey, do you want to go around the world, get paid for it and perform in front of thousands of people and get to be with your family,’ you know, the answer is yes. It’s the best of all possible worlds.
For the first couple of years, I kind of minded my p’s and q’s. I knew the Alice fans would compare it to, ‘Well, Sheryl used to do it this way.’ But after a couple of years, I really caught my confidence. All of a sudden, instead of the nurse just being sexy or provocative, I was like, ‘What if I made you hate her more than you hate Alice? I bet I could do that.’
Cooper gave me carte blanche to do what I wanted, And as the tours went on and time went by, this nurse character became a hit with these fans because you actually wanted her to die. I felt like I had done my job. They hated this character.” Alice has also appeared in films such as Bloomers and Thirty Proof Coil.

In 1964 Vince Furnier (stage name Alice Cooper) alongside his high school classmates, Dennis Dunway and Glen Buxton formed a band known as Alice Cooper. Alice Cooper was the lead singer, Glen Buxton was the lead guitarists while Dennis Dunway was the bass guitarist. They were later joined by Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar, keyboards) and Neal Smith (drums).
The band relocated to Los Angeles in 1967 and was briefly renamed Nazz. In 1970 the band relocated to Pontiac,
Michigan due to slow sales of their first two albums as well as Californians’ indifference to their act.
In late 1970 the band released their single “I’m Eighteen” which became a Top 40 hit. Due to the success of
the single, the Warner Bros invested in their third album, ‘Love It to Death’. They released four more hit albums and headlined major tours from 1971 to 1974. In 1975 the band broke up having played their final show on 8th April 1974 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 1975, after the band broke up, Vince Furnier legally changed his name to Alice Cooper and has had a solo career
under that name. He once said that the name change was one of his most important and successful career moves. Bruce, Dunaway, and Smith formed a short-lived and Billion Dollar Babies and released one album Battle Axe – in 1977. They occasionally performed with one another and Glen Buxton.
On 23rd October 1999, they reunited with Alice at the second Glen Buxton Memorial Weekend for a show at Coopers Town in Phoenix (Buxton having died in 1997). On 16th December 2010 they reunited with for another show, with Steve Hunter on guitar at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix.
On 14th March 2011 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed together; a performance
that was televised. They also performed together at London’s Battersea Power Station at the Jägermeister Ice Cold 4D event (webcast) on 11th May 2011. On 17th April 2014 a documentary about the band entitled Super Duper Alice Cooper premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. A week later it was scheduled to be screened at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
The band reunited again on 6th October 2015 in Dallas at Dunaway’s book signing session. The surviving members of the band were set to release an album but it never materialized as the only material to the surface was two bonus tracks on Cooper’s 27th studio album Paranormal. On 14th May 2017 the four surviving members reunited for a five-song set at a show in Nashville, Tennessee. They again reunited same year for a UK tour.
