Alysha Palumbo is an Emmy Award-winning general assignment reporter at NBC 10 Boston and necn. She joined the station in March 2009. A native New Englander, she grew up in Sutton, Massachusetts and is a proud alumna of Sutton High School. She graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
While at NBC 10 Boston and necn, Alysha has covered the Boston Marathon bombings, the Newtown school shooting, the Springfield tornado, as well as countless New England blizzards.
Alysha has also been one of a select few journalists to be inside the courtroom for several prominent court cases, including the trial of South Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger, the death penalty retrial of Gary Lee Sampson, and the Tsarnaev trial, for which she won an Emmy Award.
Prior to NBC 10 Boston and necn, Alysha was a reporter/anchor at WPRI-WNAC (CBS & FOX) in Providence, Rhode Island, WIVB-WNLO (CBS & CW) in Buffalo, New York, and WPBN (NBC) in Traverse City, Michigan.
Alysha lives in Oxford, Massachusetts with her husband Chris, their sons Bryce and Rhett, and their two dogs, Maggie and Brady.

Alysha Palumbo is a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at New England Cable News in Boston.
Before joining NECN in 2009, Alysha spent a year at WPRI/WNAC-TV in Providence, RI as the weekend evening anchor and a reporter.
Prior to that, she spent over 3 years at WIVB/WNLO-TV in Buffalo, NY where she was a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor. She started her professional career at WPBN/WTOM-TV in Traverse City, MI as a general assignment reporter, and was later promoted to anchor.
A native of Sutton, MA, Alysha is a 2002 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have an iPhone, and I hate to admit it but I’m on it constantly. My favorite apps are: Twitter to keep tabs on everything as it happens, Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family, Runkeeper to motivate myself to keep running, and Waze to try to beat the traffic!
2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
I’m a bit of a court junkie, so I really like covering challenging court cases and trying to explain them in an interesting and understandable way to viewers.
As a mom, I dread covering any stories where a child is injured or impacted in a negative way. No matter how many years you’re a journalist, I don’t think that ever gets any easier.
3. If you weren’t working in TV news, what would you be doing?
I’d probably be an attorney or a forensic investigator. As I said, I’m fascinated by legal issues and investigations. I love digging in and researching something for hours, eventually piecing together a frustrating puzzle. I could certainly see myself on the other side of some of the court cases I cover.
4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
I wasn’t really a fan of cartoons even at a young age because they just weren’t realistic enough (I know that’s the point! Haha!). If I had to pick one, I would say Rainbow Brite. I actually dressed up as her two Halloweens in a row.
5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
When I have any free time, I try to spend it with my husband Chris and our three-year-old son Bryce. We love going for hikes around central Mass, spending time reading books, or just playing at home.
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I’d love to travel to Italy. I’ve traveled throughout Europe but never made it to Italy and I think it would be pretty amazing to visit some of the cities and town where my ancestors grew up.
7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, who would you want as a dinner guest?
I would love to have dinner with my mom’s mom. She died before I was born, but I’ve heard so many stories about her and I’ve been told I’m a lot like her. I’d love to just be able to spend time with her and ask her a bunch of questions about our family and life in general.
8. Do you collect anything?
I don’t really collect anything right now, but when I was young I was obsessed with frogs. I still have quite a collection – of course, they’re not the slimy ones, but the stuffed or plastic ones.
9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
I think it would probably be Green Day’s Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), John Mayer’s Waiting on the World to Change, and Britney Spears’ Toxic. But if my son’s been listening to my phone with me it’s likely Raffi and Sandra Boynton songs!
10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – attributed to Albert Einstein (but historians have questioned that)
11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
I think covering the Tsarnaev trial changed my perspective on life. I spent so much time watching and listening to survivors who have persevered through unthinkable tragedy, it makes any problems or stress I deal with in life seem easy.
So many of the survivors continue to be so positive, strong and always seem to find humor and meaning in life. It has made me realize what true strength is and why it’s so important not to dwell on negativity but instead focus your energy on being the best person you can be.
