Nightingale did her first broadcast on BBC on 14 September 1963. She was a panelist on Juke Box Jury, she also contributed to Woman’s Hour later in 1964. The show first lasted till the end of 1979 airing on Sunday afternoons.
It later began its second and most famous run in December 1982 having most of its run in a slot immediately after the Top 40. The show became one of the first on British radio to regularly play music from CDs, having the advantage of its FM carriage before Radio 1 had its own higher-quality frequencies.
