Anup Jalota Biography
Anup Jalota was born on 29 July 1953. he is an Indian singer and musician, best known for his performances in the Hindu devotional music, bhajan, and the Urdu form of poetry, ghazal. He is popularly known as the “Bhajan Samraat” (Emperor of Bhajans).
Padma Shri for 2012 has been conferred upon him in the field of Art-Indian Classical Music- Vocal by Government of India. He was a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss 12. Anup was born in Nainital, Uttarakhand a renowned exponent of bhajan and hails from the Sham Chowrasi Gharana of Punjab. He was educated in Lucknow’s Bhatkhande Music Institute.
His father, Purshottam Das Jalota, was also a prominent Bhajan singer. Anup’s brother, Ajay Jalota, currently lives in California. He has two younger brothers:- Anil Jalota & Ajay Jalota and two sisters, Anjali Dhir and Anita Mehra.

Anup Jalota Affairs And Wife
Anup Jalota found his first love in Sonali Sheth. Sonali hails from a Gujarati family and is also a playback, ghazal and bhajan singer. While still a music student, she fell in love with young Anup and the two got married against their respective families’ approval.
However, the marriage didn’t last long and the two divorced each other. Sonali went on to marry another famous singer, Roop Kumar Rathod and Anup Ji headed towards his second marriage.
This time, going with his family, Anup Jalota went down the path of arranged marriage and got married to Bina Bhatia. Not much is known about her, but as against everyone’s thought, considering that this was an arranged marriage set-up, Anup Ji and Bina’s marriage too went for a toss and the couple got divorced later.
Anup Jalota got married to Medha Gujral. For the uninitiated ones, it must be mentioned here that Medha belongs to both the politics and entertainment industries of India. On one hand, she is the niece of former Indian Prime Minister, I.K. Gujral and on the other, she was the first wife of the prolific director, Shekhar Kapur.
This marriage seemed to be sailing smoothly and the couple also had a baby boy whom they named, Aryaman. However, life had other plans and in 2014, unfortunately, Medha passed away due to liver failure and second heart attack, leaving Anup Ji unlucky for the third time in love.
It came to light in 2018 that he had been in a relationship with Bigg Boss 12 contestant Jasleen Matharu, who is thirty-seven years younger than him.
They had been together at least three and a half years prior since either 2015 or 2014 but after getting evicted from the house Anup Jalota said his and Jasleen Matharu’s relationship was only of a student and teacher.
Anup Jalota Career
Anup Jalota started his musical career as a chorus singer in All India Radio. He is usually backed by a santoor player, dholak player, sarod player, sarangi player, violinist, sitar player, tabla player, and guitarist.
Some of his popular bhajans include Aisi Lagi Lagan, Main Nahi Makhan Khayo, Rang De Chunariya, Jag Me Sundar Hai Do Naam, and Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini. He was also the presenter of the program Dharam Aur Hum, telecast on Star Plus from 2002 to 2005.
He met Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj in Mumbai and agreed to release several CDs of his compositions. In 2008 he recorded the title song “Golden Memorable Yaadein” for the CD “Noorani Chehra”, produced by Shaukat (Sam) Kassam to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Aga Khan. On 16 September 2018, Jalota entered Bigg Boss house in its twelfth season. He is a contestant and has entered the show along with Jasleen Matharu.

Anup Jalota, Talat Aziz and Pakistani actors show in london were conculed by Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Ashoke Pandit, the chief adviser of FWICE, tweeted on Saturday: “#FWICE appeals to @anupjalota & @TalatAziz2 to withdraw from their respective shows with Pakistanis.”FWICE a notice and said We have already given our directive that no Indian artist/singer/dancer/anchor/performer last but not the least promoter would work with Pak nationals and Pak artists, in view of the current alarming situation between the two countries. It is, therefore, our humble request to both of you to immediately cancel the above shows to maintain the dignity and honor of the country. You are an Indian, for which you should be proud.”
The letter also threatened the artist with dire consequences if he does not cancel his performance and chooses to go ahead with it. It reads, “In case you don’t cancel the shows of Ustad Tari Khan and go against the sentiments of Indians, no Indian artist/singer/dancer/anchor/performer would ever work with you anywhere in the entire world.”
