Michael Wong Biography
Michael Wong (Michael Wong Kong Leong) is a Malaysian Chinese singer,composer and actor born on 30th August 1970 in Ipoh, Malaysia. He was born to a Hakka family and is the elder of two children. He is a former member of a duo group Michael & Victor, arguably the first Malaysians to attain much success in the music scene in Taiwan.
Michael Wong Career
Michael often sang in the church choir during his school days and was once a choir teacher at a church. He attended Sam Tet School in Ipoh and often participated in musical performances in school. Since secondary school he was writing his own songs. In moved to Kuala Lumpur to pursue a computer engineering but his love for music and music composition began to grow.
He entered upto 30 singing competitions in a single year and won several times. He was noticed by Asia Pacific Music in the Pioneer karaoke contest, he started to learn Audio Engineering at Ocean Institute Of Audio Engineering during his contract with Asia Pacific Music as a recording artist.
After graduating he produced his first album with other two college mates, Chan and Tan. Victor Wong later joined them as a singer. They submitted the album with the theme song written by Michael, to Rock Records, which in turn, signed them up almost immediately.
They later formed a duo group more commonly known in Malaysia as, Michael & Victor or Guang Liang Pin Guan. In Taiwan and China, they were mostly known as Wu Yin Liang Pin, a name given by their record label in Taiwan.
The group became successful, arguably the first Malaysians to attain much success in the music scene in Taiwan. They scooped many awards for their success. In 2000 they decided to part ways and ventured into solo career.
Michael Wong composed and wrote new songs for his solo album, ‘Michael’s First Album’. His company promptly decided that he should produce his album on his own. Other than working on his own album, Wong also found time to co-produce other singers’ albums like Rene Liu and Fish Leong.
In November 2002 he released his second album ‘Ray of Light’ which became number one album in sales in Taiwan.
In January 2005 Michael Wong released his third album ‘Fairy Tale’ which was a much success. It is critically acclaimed to be Wong’s best-selling album yet. The single ‘Fairy Tale’ shoot to number 1 immediately after it was released in January 2005, making it to the top of the download counter Baidu 500 for 15 weeks. The single is arguably the most successful Chinese language song of the 21st century. As of 2012 it was still among the top in the karaoke charts.
On 31st December 2004 his contract with Rock Records ended he left the record label in July 2005. He left the label because they believed that since his music was so simple, it was not music. Thus, they ignored him. He signed to Amusic.
He released his fourth album ‘Commitment’ which sold 1.5 million copies in less than one month. The album is a collection of many of his past works. The album contains 17 tracks. There are also three new songs; commitment, Its You and Embrace Me.He also included the songs he wrote and sang when he was still part of the duo Michael and Victor.
On 6 June 2006, Michael Wong made it into the Malaysia Book of Records as the Malaysian Chinese Male Composer with the highest number of awards and also for the Best Selling Chinese Album (Tong Hua). Wong has gathered 44 awards, 23 of them for his hit song “Tong Hua”.
During the 17th Golden Melody Awards, Taiwan’s equivalent of the Grammys, he earned a nomination in the Best Composer category.
On 16th May 2007 he released a compilation called Michael 1996–2006 the greatest hits. On 9th November 2007 he released his 5th solo studio album, ‘Never Apart’. On 31st July 2009 he released his First Digital Single which contained 2 Cantonese songs called Dian Xiao Er and Qing Shui. You Shou Bian and Mei Hao Shi Guang were also included.
In October 2010, Michael Wong represented Malaysia and performed at the 7th Asia Song Festival, organised by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange, at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.
On Christmas Eve 2012, he and Teresa Carpio sang at The Joint in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as a Christmas special and sang a song that was not recorded in any of his albums.

Michael Wong Career in Acting
In 2000 Michael Wong made his film debut in Summer Holiday. He later acted in several TV drama series in Taiwan, such as White Romance (starring alongside Karena Lam), Wintry Night 2 where he speak his native dialect Hakka, and several more. Besides that, Wong also did a stunning act in Taiwanese director Su Chaopin’s debut comedy movie, BTS. Besides movies and drama series, Michael Wong also starred in a musical stage drama in Taiwan, Mr. Wing, in August 2005.

Michael Wong Wife
In 2014 during while promoting his album ‘Crazy Memories’ which was dominated by love songs and memories theme was also evident Michael Wong revealed that he had some of his own memories in the album.He admitted that he had missed too many relationship opportunities in the past.
“But right now, I want to focus on my career. I don’t have time for dating. I will not impose on anything. The most important thing in a person’s life is to live substantially and happily.”
