Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson was born in 1940. He is an Australian actor and one of the major figures of Australian cinema. He was educated at University of Queensland, before embarking on his acting career. In 2002, he was made an honorary member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS). Jack Thompson is best known as a lead actor in several acclaimed Australian films, including such classics as The Club, Sunday Too Far Away, The Man from Snowy River and Breaker Morant. He won Cannes and AFI acting awards for the latter film. He was the recipient of a Living Legend Award at the 2005 Inside Film Awards.

Jack Thompson Career

In the early part of his career, Jack Thompson balanced a career with the United Nations with his acting: The acting won out. At 65 years old, his career has been recognized by the Critics Circle of Australia, which awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award, by the Cinema Owners Association of Australia which gave him its Award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Film Entertainment.

Thompson lived for a while in a menage a trois with his wife Leona King, by whom he has a son and her sister Bunkie. Though the living arrangement came to an end after several years. He was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in the 1986 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to the film industry.
