Jacqueline Dark is an Australian mezzo soprano whose skills span opera, musical theatre, cabaret, theatre restaurant and concerts. She was born in Ballarat and attended the University of Ballarat from 1986 to 1988, receiving a Bachelor of Science (Physics) and a Graduate Diploma of Education in 1989.
She has performed with the Victorian Opera, The Melbourne Chorale, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Sydney Philharmonia, The Australian National Academy of Music, The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society, the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. In opera, Jacqueline has performed many roles including Marcellina in the Marriage of Figaro and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.
Jacqueline Dark sang Herodias in Opera Australia’s new production of Salome and won the Green Room Award for Outstanding Principal Female in Opera in 2012. Her 2013 and 2014 OA schedule included Emilia, Donna Elvira, Filippyevna in Eugene Onegin, Meg Page in Falstaff, Lady Billows in Albert Herring and Fricka in Der Ring des Nibelungen. She also took the alto solos in Rossini’s Stabat Mater for the West Australian Symphony, in Messiah for the New Zealand Symphony and appeared as Herodias for Opera Hong Kong.
Jaqueline Dark was awarded the Vienna State Opera Award by Opera Foundation Australia which led to her undertaking many roles for the Wiener Staatsoper including Giovanna , Grimgerde, Mercedes), Annina, Ines and Countess Ceprano in 2012.
