Uckfield firm’s special interest in new BBC drama

Published On Thursday, March 14, 2019
Business is growing nationwide for chartered surveyors and commercial property agents Oldfield Smith & Co as they celebrate their sixth anniversary in Uckfield.
Most recently they were excited to let a building in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham to a production company filming Dark Mon£y a new drama for the BBC which is due to air later this year.
Bernard Smith said they were approached by location managers who were looking for a suitable location for a solicitor’s office and within a fortnight the deal was set up.
Cast
The cast for Dark Mon£y will include Babou Ceesay (Damilola, Our Loved Boy, Best of Enemies), and Jill Halfpenny (Three Girls, In the Club). The series is being produced for the BBC by independent production company The Forge, who’s previous work has included The Last Post, Kiri and National Treasure.
Now the Oldfield Smith team is looking forward to the release of the finished series.
The property used by the production company is now under offer for sale through Oldfield Smith, with the transaction expected to complete shortly.
Wide area
Bernard said Oldfield Smith & Co was working over an increasingly wide area.
The majority of their work remains in the South East – they have an office in Gatwick as well as Uckfield – but they are now established in the West Midlands and have current instructions as far north as Manchester.
“I have links with Birmingham and am up there quite a bit but we will go anywhere we feel we can do the job properly,” Bernard added. “Sometimes that means we partner with local agents and that proves to be successful combination.”

Popular
He said the Oldfield Smith website continued to be extremely popular with users and had nationwide reach. This meant existing clients, based in Uckfield but working well beyond its boundaries, asked them to take on business for them elsewhere in the country.
The firm was spending more time in the Gatwick Diamond area, and particularly in Crawley, where they are keen to continue expanding and have recently taken on a number of new instructions.
Bernard said the firm now manages three sites in that area and in the last two weeks alone has added a further 7,891 square feet of space to let in and around Gatwick.
Team
Oldfield Smith has a settled team – including directors Bernard Smith and Richard Oldfield, associate Paul White, office manager Sue Collett, and financial controller Elizabeth Douglas-Smith.
Bernard and Paul are both chartered surveyors and registered valuers, meaning they are qualified to provide formal valuation advice on most commercial property matters.
As a result of their continued expansion, Bernard said there are plans to build on their existing team and he will be recruiting additional staff later this year.
