Barbara Ann Cole Frank Robinson
Barbara Ann Cole met her husband Robinson when he was on a road trip to Los Angeles back in 1961 August. The two got married after two months of dating on October 28th, 1961. Her husband Robinson had a long, promising and successful baseball career. He played for two teams the Cincinnati Reds from 1956 to 1965 and the Baltimore Orioles from 1966 to 1971.
Later in 1972, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and from 1973 to 1974 he joined California Angels. In 1974-76 he joined Cleveland Indians. He was named Most Valuable Player in both leagues, in 1961 with the Reds and again in 1966 with the Orioles being the only player to be named that. Robinson was playing for two teams that got to win the World Series. He also won the Triple Crown and in 1982 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Robinson became the first African American field manager in baseball history. In 1966 when Robinson was signed with Baltimore, his family was not able to find a house in an all-white neighborhood because of their race. He left his wife in charge of finding a house when Orioles began spring training in Florida.
She was not able to find a house. Robinson informed the owner of the team and was able to help them settle in Ashburton North Baltimore. Ann Cole and Robinson have been married for the last 58 years till Robinson died. Frank Robinson died in their home in Los Angeles. This was after battling with bone cancer. He died on February 7th, 2019 at the age of 83 years old.
