Winans’ career began in the early 1980s, when he and his sister CeCe formed the duo BeBe & CeCe Winans. The duo released their self-titled debut album in 1987, which was a critical and commercial success.

The album spawned the hit singles “Jesus Loves Me” and “Hold On, Change Is Comin’.” BeBe & CeCe Winans went on to release six more albums together, all of which were successful. In 1995, BeBe and CeCe Winans split up to pursue solo careers. Winans released his debut solo album, Winans, in 1997.
