Ben Shephard Biography

Ben Shephard (Full name- Benjamin Peter Sherrington Shephard) is an English television presenter and journalist who currently works for ITV and Sky Sports. He was on born 11 December 1974, Epping, Essex, England. His most famous role was as the main presenter on the now defunct breakfast programme GMTV.

He has hosted game shows like The Krypton Factor, 2009–2010, Tipping Point 2012–present, and Ninja Warrior UK, 2015–present. Shephard, alongside felow welcomer Helen Skelton, welcomed the athletes of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games (2012), to Trafalgar Square for the athletes’ homecoming parade. He has co-hosted the ITV breakfast show Good Morning Britain alongside co-hosts Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway, since April 2014.

Shephard’s career began in 1998, when he started hosting Bigger Breakfast alongside fellow co-hosts Josie D’Arby, Melanie Sykes and Dermot O’Leary. The show was a Channel 4 spin-off. He then became the first presenter of T4’s teen strand on Channel 4, which started on 25 October 1998. Shephard also presented Control Freaks for the channel within the same year.

In 2013, Shephard returned to Channel 4 to co-present What’s Cooking?. He then left Channel 4 permanently on 24 May 2013 after hosting one series, alongside Lisa Faulkner.

Shephard presented the first three series of ITV2 spin-off programme The Xtra Factor between 2004 and 2006 in which he also starred in I; within The Xtra Factor. Shephard was replaced by Fearne Cotton on the show three series later after missing out on the main presenting role. This was after the departure of original host Kate Thornton.

Shephard announced that he had signed a new contract with Sky Sports, on 27 July 2010, in a deal reportedly worth £495,000 a year. He currently co-presents Goals on Sunday alongside Chris Kamara on sky sports. While the main coverage on Sky Sports 1 is hosted by Jeff Stelling, he hosted live secondary match coverage of the UEFA Champions League on Sky Sports 3 or 4. He was the main anchor for Sky Sports coverage of the League Cup. Shephard only presented Goals on Sunday for Sky Sports with no moreo hosting of the live matches as of April 2014.

Shephard takes part in many extreme physical challenges. He does this to support several charities among them the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Haven House Children’s Hospice and the Holly Lodge Centre. He has completed 14 marathons since the year 2000 in order to help raise funds for these charities.

While taking part in a charity match, playing for England in 2016, Shephard was  red carded for a “Sardonic foul” on Dimitar Berbatov.

A photo of Shephard surfaced from his time as a best man for his friends wedding. In the photo he is naked apart from a sporran covering his dignity. The photo was revealed by co-host Kate Garraway on the show Good Morning Britain.

Shephard is a staunch Westham fan and has been attending the club’s live matches for over 30 years. He also hosts the Hammers’ End of Season Player Awards.

Shephard has had a number of bad tackles on opponents in various Soccer aid matches. Among his victims are Dimitar Berbatov, Edgar Davids and Marodona. In the Soccer Aid match of 2016, he was sent off after a second yellow card for a bad tackle on Berbatov who was running clear on goal, his first booking had been as a result of a foul on Davids.

Shephard was part of GMTV for ten years. It was confirmed that Shephard was quitting GMTV after 10 years, on 21 April 2010. This was after he told the management he would not be renewing his contract.
