Wedeman was originally hired by CNN as a local Jordanian employee in 1994 with the job title being “fixer /producer /sound technician”. One of his duties was to help the reporting staff gets through checkpoints.
He gradually rose to be the chief of CNN’s Amman office. Cairo, Egypt, Wedeman was the head of CNN’s Cairo office from 1998 to 2006, where he led CNN’s coverage of the rebellion against then-President Hosni Mubarak as well as the wider Middle East unrest.
