Benny Snell Jr(Benjamin Snell Jr.) is an American football running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Kentucky. On April 27. 2019 he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 4th round of the NFL draft.

He was a Freshman All-American and All-Freshman SEC pick that year, running for 1,091 yards and 13 touchdowns on 186 carries “5.9 average”. Snell took the lead role in the backfield as a sophomore, starting all 13 games and receiving second-team All-SEC recognition after leading the conference with 262 carries for 1,333 yards “5.1 average” and 19 touchdowns.

Snell was the third SEC back to exceed 1,300 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in his first two seasons “Herschel Walker, Knowshon Moreno” and he did it again as a junior.

“Right now the top two are my mom and coach (Eddie), Gran. My mom has been with me every step of the way. She is the love of my life, and there is a time I need to repay her for everything she has done for me,” Snell said.

Kentucky junior running back Benny Snell (5-10 3/8, 224) ran the 40-yard dash twice Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

On the first attempt, he ran an unofficial 4.70 second time. On the second attempt, he ran an unofficial 4.66 second time. It was tied for the fifth slowest time at the running back position. The pace was set by Oklahoma State running back Justice Hill with a 4.40 second time in the 40-yard dash.

The Ohio native pumped 16 repetitions of 225-pounds on the bench press in addition to leaping 29.5 inches vertically and 119 inches broadly. He ranked low or middle of the road in each of those categories.

“Downhill grinder with an ability to create for himself with his vision and power, but lacking the desired level of elusiveness and burst as an NFL runner. Snell is a touchdown hog whose scores were often earned and rarely given. Teams will like his toughness, size, and instincts, but he must improve has blitz pickup to counter his athletic limitations. As a freshman in 2016, he rushed for 1,091 rushing yards, breaking the Kentucky freshman rushing record which was held by Moe Williams. Snell Jr. also managed to score 13 rushing touchdowns. During his freshman season Snell Jr, set six UK freshman records,such as most rushing touchdowns in a game , most rushing yards by a freshman (1,091), most rushing touchdowns by a freshman “13”, most total touchdowns by a freshman “13”, most 100-yard rushing games (5) and most rushing yards by a freshman in a single game”192″.

Sophomore
As a sophomore in 2017, he rushed for 1,333 rushing yards and scoring 19 rushing touchdowns. The 21 years old became the first Kentucky player with 10 or more career 100-yard rushing games prior to his junior season. He also became the only SEC player since 2000 to have at least 116 rushing yards and at least three rushing TDs in three consecutive games.

His. became the 9th player in Kentucky school history to reach 2,000 rushing yards in his career and the 19th player in SEC history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards prior to his junior season. As a junior in 2018, he rushed for 1,449 rushing yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns. Snell Jr. became one of four running backs in SEC history to have three consecutive 1,000 rushing yard seasons, the others being Herschel Walker, Darren McFadden, and Alex Collins.

Snell Jr. would also become the school’s career rushing yards leader after scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run vs. Penn State in the 2019 Citrus Bowl. This 43-year-old record, previously held by Sonny Collins, was broken in just 3 seasons by Snell. Snell was voted First Team All-SEC by SEC Coaches. He would announce on December 14, 2018, that he would forego his senior season and enter the 2019 NFL Draft.
