Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and musician who was born and brought up in Nine Mile, Jamaica. He sold over 75 million records worldwide and who is still remembered for his unique sound and powerful lyrics. His career spanned from 1963 to 1981, and he was one of the most influential reggae artists of all time.

He was the son of Cedella Booker, a Jamaican of Ethiopian descent, and Norval Sinclair Marley, an Englishman. He was raised in the rural village of Nine Mile, where he grew up with his mother. At the age of 12, he moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where he met and befriended local musicians and began to learn guitar and form his own music style. During his childhood, he attended Stepney Primary and Junior High School and then moved on to Kingston Technical School, where he formed his first band.

Bob Marley’s career began in 1963 when he formed The Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston. He released his debut album, “Catch a Fire” in 1972 and followed it with “Burnin” in 1973. He also performed at the historic One Love Peace Concert at the height of political and social tension in Jamaica in 1978. Marley’s music was popular worldwide, and he was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
