Siouxland runners qualify for state cross country meet
ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) — The Iowa high school state cross country meet is Saturday, November 2 in Fort Dodge. The state qualifying meets were held Thursday in all four classes. Orange City was the site of a Class 2A meet for boys and girls.
There were nice conditions at Landsmeer Golf Course where 14 schools were competing. At the finish line of the girls’ race, Western Christian senior Whitney Minderhoud pulled away to win in 20-minutes and 2 seconds. She was: 21 seconds ahead of WC/KP sophomore Sarah Hamman, while Sibley-Ocheyedan freshman Bria Wasmund was third.
Minderhoud had won on her mind.
“My coach was telling me he really thought I could,” said Minderhoud. “So I just had to keep that mindset in mind while I was running. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. I was just really relaxed and felt really good.”
The boy’s race turned into a one-man show. MVAO/COU senior Dylan Blake led from start to finish. Blake comes home, sprinting to the finish line to win by almost 12 seconds over Western Christian sophomore Tage Hulstein. Blake’s winning time was 16-minutes, 24 seconds.
“Running district meet every year, no matter who you are, it always gets your energy up,” said Blake. “Even if you’re the best runner in the world you’re still going to be pumped to get into this, just for the opportunity to be at state.”
Okoboji won the boy’s team title. Unity Christian and WC/KP tied for the girl’s championship.

ISU takes three-game winning streak into homecoming contest
AMES, Iowa (KTIV) — There are just two college football teams in the country that are undefeated in the month of October over the last three seasons, Iowa State and Alabama.
The Cyclones will try to keep that streak going on Saturday when they host Oklahoma State on homecoming. ISU is on a three-game Big 12 winning streak for the third year in a row.
The Cyclones are averaging 37 points a game to rank third in the Big 12 and 20th in the nation in scoring. They’ve beaten three-straight conference opponents by double digits for the first time in 14 years.
“That’s part of a growing process,” said Matt Cambell. “I do think that’s part of the offense’s growing process a little bit, finding out who, what, how and really building from there. I think that group’s really done a nice job of building as this season’s gone on.”
“Just being able to score points, we emphasize that at the begging of the year,” said wide receiver Deshaute Jones. “Just continue to try and score points, get in the red zone and score points. Try not to leave points on the board. We continue to work on that week in and week out.”
Iowa State is a seven-point favorite on Saturday. Kickoff is at 2:30 on Fox Sports 1.
