Born on January 31, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, Thompson attended and graduated from Cimarron Memorial High in Las Vegas in 2000. He acquired his associate of science degree from Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, and played in the Junior College World Series and was named to the JC World Series All-Tournament team.
