Brett had a foundation; singing in the Christian fellowship back in high school. It began in the late ‘90s when he was asked to step for an absent band leader during a Christian worship meeting. Young had been inspired by Gavin DeGraw since he first listened to his album. He also drew inspiration from the prolific singer and songwriter, Jeffrey Steele. He was signed by the Big Machine Label Group in August 2015.
In February 2016, he released a six-song self-titled EP. “Sleep Without You” which was released as the first single from the EP in April 2016. He wrote the song with Justin Ebach and Kelly Archer. The second single was released from the album called “In Case You Didn’t Know”, which was released on January 9, 2017. The song reached number one on the Country Airplay chart and it was certified triple Platinum by RIAA.
The album’s third single, “Like I Loved You” was released to country radio on July 17, 2017. On February 10, 2017, he released his self-titled debut studio album, Brett Young. The album was produced by Dann Huff and it was released through Big Machine Label Group. It then debuted number two on the Top Country Albums chart.
