The award-winning “Transparent” producer is from Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the University of Utah and earned a Film Studies degree. She also attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts to study for her MFA in Directing. While she was a student at Tisch, received grants from the National Endowment of the Arts, Screen Gems Inc., The Wasserman Awards, and was named Best Female Student Director by the Directors Guild of America – East. She wrote a thesis film by the title BABY. It premiered in 2001 at the Sundance Film Festival and aired on the Sundance Channel and cable networks worldwide.
In 2006, she taught directing and screenwriting courses at Ramapo College of New Jersey. A year later, she made her debut in writing for television on Mad Men. The series was quite successful and for her work, she received a Writer’s Guild of America Award for Best New Series and a Peabody.
Bedard’s next work was writing and producing the comedy-drama series Men of a Certain Age by Ray Romano and Mike Royce. The series ran from December 7, 2009, to July 6, 2011, on TNT and led to her receiving another Peabody Award.

Bedard got her role on the American comedy-drama TV series in 2014 when she teamed up with its creator Jill Soloway to become the head writer of its first season. The success of the web series is credited to the Amazon Studios launch. Going into Season Three, Bedard was an Executive Producer and took on the role of showrunner for Season Four. The much-acclaimed web series won a total of eight Emmy Awards, a Producers Guild of America Award, two Peabody Awards, two Golden Globes, a Critics Choice Award, a BAFTA, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
