Bruce D Perry is an American physician who was born and brought up in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States. Perry a senior fellow at the Child Trauma Institute in Houston, Texas, and an adjunct professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
From 1993 to 2001 he was the Thomas S. Trammell Research Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and Chief of Psychiatry at Texas Children’s Hospital, a clinician and researcher in child mental health and neurosciences. He also serves as a senior consultant to the Children and Youth Services Minister of Alberta in Alberta, Canada. Dr. Perry is also a senior fellow at Melbourne, Australia’s Berry Street Childhood Institute. He is the publisher of many novels, as well.
Perry worked as a consultant and expert witness on several high-profile events involving traumatized children, including the Columbine High School shooting, the bombing of Oklahoma City, the Waco siege, and the custody cases of YFZ Ranch. His clinical research and practice focus on examining the long-term effects of trauma in children, adolescents, and adults and has been instrumental in describing how traumatic events change brain biology in childhood.
He is the author of more than 200 journal articles, book chapters, and scientific proceedings and the recipient of a number of technical prizes. Perry’s Neurosequential Therapeutic Model is now the working model used by the Wichita, Kansas Trauma Treatment Center in Youthville.
