The Ultimate Fighter
In January 2013, it was revealed that McDaniel had been chosen for The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen. To secure his spot in the TUF house, McDaniel secured a TKO victory over Ryan Bigler. During the team selection, he became the third pick for Team Jones and sixth overall.
McDaniel faced Kelvin Gastelum, the eventual winner, in the preliminary round. Despite being the favorite, McDaniel succumbed to a rear-naked choke in the second round.
