Florida Championship Wrestling (2007 – 2012)
Saxton signed a developmental lease with WWE and was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). Byron, at first using his real name, made his FCW introduction on October 13th, 2007, conquered by Hade Vansen. His next feature was just over a week later on October 23rd, when he lost to ”The Carnival Freak” Sinn Bowden.
Saxton accomplished a sporadically in FCW over the next few months, winning a six-man tag team match against Vansen, Sheamus O’Shaunessy, and Bowden with Rycklon Stephens and Chet Douglas as his members, but losing a single match to Afa Jr. a few weeks later. He terminated off 2007 with a win against Tommy Taylor on December 18th.
Saxton kicked off with a win in 2008, conquering Steve Lewington on FCW’s first show of the year on January 8th. His next match against Afa Jr. however, was decreed a no-contest after TJ With Ryklon, losing to the teams of Nick Nemeth and Big Rob, Jake Hager, and Shawn Osborne, and Heath Miller and Steve Lewington.
Another fight on April 15th, when Kelly and Rycklon faced Johnny Curtis and Gabe Tuft ended in a double contour. On June 3rd, he became a manager, cutting a promotion for Black Pain. He managed Black Pain commonly, escorting him for fights and also teaming occasionally with him.
On September 30th, he introduced a new ring name, Byron Saxton. With Black Pain, and the rest of his faction, known as the Saxton Conglomerate or simply the Conglomerate, composed of Stu Sanders and Tyson Tarver, Saxton started a feud with Kafu, having the members of the Conglomerate face off against him in fights.
After this clan ended, the Conglomerate quickly stated another one with Johnny Prime. In the course of this clan Kaleb O’Neal stated teaming with Prime in order to be of aid, however, O’Neil later turned on Prime and linked with the Conglomerate. In January 2009, Black Pain broke away from the Conglomerate and changed his ring title to Sweet Papi Sanchez, instigating a clan with the remaining Conglomerate members.
Following that, Byron affiliated himself with Abraham Washington. When Josh Mathews left FCW to commentate on ECW full-time, Byron started serving as a commentator together with Dusty Rhodes and then Abraham Washington. In November 2010 he turned on Washington and began feuding with him.
Following his stint on ECW and NXT Redemption, Byron came back to FCW as a commentator and wore an arm sling, arrogating he was injured and unable to finish until the March 4th, 2012 series when Byron unexpectedly took out his sling and hit Kenneth Cameron with a Coin roll.
A fight was arranged between Byron and Cameron the following week, but Saxton once again abrogated to be injured and unable to contest and was supplanted in the fight by Colin Cassady. Byron then served as a commentator for the remainder of FCW’s tenure until the encouragement was shut down in Agust 2012.
Byron Saxton ECW (2009 – 2010)
In October 2009, the SmackDown color commentator, Jim Ross, was experiencing a Bell’s palsy attack, resulting in a shuffle of the other commentators. Matt Striker was moved from ECW as a commentator, serving together with Josh Mathews. He introduced the October 27thth series.
He continued commentating until February 2010, when Vince McMahon declared that ECW was to be changed with NXT. Byron then came back to FCW in March of that year.
Byron Saxton NXT (2010 – 2015)
On the third series finale of NXT on November 30th, it was declared that Byron would be a competitor on the fourth series with Chris Masters as his mentor. He made his in-ring introduction on December 14th, series of NXT, teaming with his role model, Ted DiBiase.
Earlier that night, Byron won the karaoke challenge, acquiring a point towards his first win on the following series when he teamed with Masters and WWE Diva Natalya to conquer Clay, DiBiase, and Maryse in a six-person mixed tag team match.
On January 4th, 2011 series of NXT, Dolph Ziggler became Byron’s new promoter after Ziggler won a fight royal to earn the right to choose a new rookie and he chose Byron. On the February 8th, series of NXT, Byron was eliminated. In March 2011, Byron was selected as one of the six former NXT contestants to return to the show in its faith series, NXT Redemption.
During this episode, Byron was mentored by Yoshi Tatsu. On April 26th, Edition of NXT, Byron assaulted Tatsu after he cost him the fight against Lucky Cannon. Going into late May 2011, he started referring to himself as ”Big League” Saxton, believing that he is bigger than the NXT Rookies and or the WWE Pros, turning heel. On the following week, Byron has voted off NXT Redemption.
Saxton made his comeback as the play-by-play commentator for the relaunched NXT on May 17th, 2012 taping at Full Sail University. Later on, he would become the NXT ring employee in addition to having some creative obligations for the company. On January 27th, 2014, he made his Raw introduction on the WWE App. After three days he featured together with Tom Phillips as a commentator on WWE Superstars. In July, Byron would become the new emcee of the WWE Network show, Tough Talk, replacing former emcee The Miz, who would become the new judge on Tough Enough after the Hulk Hogan scandal. After Tough Enough ended, Byron was kept on as Raw announcer permanently and Booker T switched to the SmackDown announce team.
In December 2015, Byron left the NXT announce team and rejoined the Smackdown announce gang together with Mauro Ranallo, replacing Booker T and Rich Brennan. Byron left the SmackDown to announce gang in July 2016 and became exclusive to the Raw announce gang following the 2016 WWE Draft, performing as a face commentator in contrast to Corey Graves heel commentary.
