Christopher Joseph Ward (born October 8th, 1965), famously known as C.J. Ramone, is an American musician commonly known for serving as the bassist, backing and occasional lead vocalist of the punk rock gang the Ramones from 1989 – 1996.
He is one of the four surviving members of the Ramones, together with three of their drummers Marky Ramone, Richie Ramone, and Elvis Ramone.

He wrote songs for the group and later went to the audition with the sole purpose of jamming with the Ramones. He was not nervous since he had no intentions of getting the part but much to his surprise, He played his first live show with the band, Adjusting to the Ramones’ play style was one of the biggest challenges he had as he was originally a finger-playing bassist as opposed to Dee Dee’s signature down picking technique. He eventually had to learn and adapt by lowering his bass down to his kneecap and wearing sweatbands.
He gave younger images and sang many songs. It was stated that when he joined the Ramones he was seen as a breath of fresh air into the band. He was the youngest member of the Ramones when he joined, his first live show with the Ramones was on September 30, in Leicester, England, his official debut with the band was actually three weeks earlier on September 4 during the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon that aired on WWOR-TV in New York. He played with the band until they disbanded in August.
He inherited several amps from Dee Dee Ramone and used Ampeg SVT amplifiers for most of his career, He was given a black Mexican Fender Precision Bass, with a white pickguard and a maple neck and that was his main bass for the first gigs with the Ramones When he joined the Ramones. He later bought a white American Fender Precision with a white pickguard (later switched to a black to make it look more like Dee Dee’s bass guitars).
Ward replaced Dee Dee, the initial band member, though Dee Dee continued to compose songs for the band. C.J. He came to the audition for the sole purpose of jamming with the Ramones; he was not “nervous or intimidated” because he had no intention of having that portion, but he did much to his surprise. After discharging from the Marines and learning in 5 weeks 40 Ramones songs. On September 30th, 1989, he performed his first live show with the band.
Adjusting to the style of the Ramones was one of the greatest problems he had as C.J. Unlike Dee Dee’s signature down picking method, he was initially a finger-playing bassist. Ultimately he learned to adapt by reducing his bass to his bass down to his kneecap and wearing sweatbands. He sang a lot of famous Ramones songs and gave the band a younger picture. It is indicated in the documentary End of the Century: He was seen as a breath of fresh air in the group, joining the Ramones. Johnny claims he knew about C.J. right away.
Auditioned to substitute Dee Dee that he was correct, saying that he “had the correct look.” He was the Ramones ‘ youngest member by nine years when he joined. He shared a birthday with bandmate Johnny on October 8 as well.
