Carol Anne Boone was a widely known American woman who was onetime married to kidnapper, rapist, serial killer, and also necrophile Ted Bundy. The pair married in the year 1980, the day before he was convicted to death for the third time, and would stay married until the year 1986. There is less known about Boone prior to her relationship with Bundy. Formerly, she was married and had a teenage son when she first met Bundy. At the time, they both served at the Washington State Department of Emergency Services.

In the year 1975, Ted was arrested in Utah when police found stockings, a ski mask, handcuffs, an ice pick, and a crowbar in his iconographic Volkswagen Beetle. He was sentenced for the kidnap and assault of a 12-year-old girl.

Nonetheless, his relationship gradually grew stronger. They exchanged letters, and she visited the state for seven days to see him. Two years later, Ted was extradited to Colorado to finish his 15-year sentence. With the help of money smuggled in by Carole, he concocted an impressive prison escape and fled to Florida. In Florida, he committed the two most significant acts on his criminal record; the murder of Chi Omega sorority girls Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy, and the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Kimberly Leach. Carole moved to Florida to attend the trial.

During his second trial in the year 1979, Carole and Ted Bundy had grown very close and many believe that she had helped him in his second escape from prison. They steadily exchanged letters and Carole even relocated to Florida with her son to be close to Bundy.

Carole served as Ted’s character witness multiple times during his trials and Ted Bundy was part of his own defense team, having studied law in the past. In 1980, Carole told Ted that she wanted to get married, and he subsequently petitioned the prison, stating his desire to marry her, but the jail authorities denied the request.

However, Ted Bundy decided to use an obscure law in the legal books of Florida, and on 9 February 1980, during the trial for murdering Kimberly Leach, when Carole had been called to the witness stand, he asked her if she would marry him. Carole accepted and as it occurred in front of the presiding judge, they were legally married. A day later, Ted Bundy was given the death sentence (for the third time) by electrocution.
