Wells began her acting career at the age of 12 in a play at a little theater in Burbank, California. She was a coloratura soprano and took opera lessons in the 1960s, expanding her repertoire to musical theater. She performed in productions of “The Sound of Music”, “Call Me Madam” with Ethel Merman, “Wildcat” with Martha Raye, and “State Fair” with Roger Smith.
