Chase played for the UCLA Bruins while a freshman. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 76th overall choice in the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft, but he declined UCLA’s invitation to enroll. Chase made his Major League Baseball debut on April 4, 2003, as a pinch hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Chase was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies as the 15th overall choice in the 2000 amateur draft. He also played with the Philadelphia Phillies up until the 2015 campaign. In June 2015, he was put on the 15-day disabled list due to inflammation in his right ankle, but he came back to play on July 7.
