Immediately after completing college, Cheryl was drafted by multiple basketball leagues, however, she suffered a knee injury in 1980 that halted her career in basketball.
Cheryl played for the USA National Team in the 1983 World Championships for Women and won the silver medal after losing to USSR 84-82 in a very close game. In the same year, she helped the US basketball team win the gold medal in the Pan American Games held in Caracus.
