Nigerian comedienne Chigul opens up about her divorce and marriage during a chat with actress Mercy Johnson – Chigul was a guest on the first episode of Johnson’s cooking show – The celebrities shared some candid details about their lives as they cooked and ate Popular Nigerian comedienne turned actor Chioma Omeruah, known as Chigul, has talked about her previous marriage, and what led to her divorce. The comedienne made this known during a chat with actress Mercy Johnson.
Actress Mercy Johnson, who recently launched a cooking show Mercy’s Menu, invited Chigul as her first guest for the first episode of the show. During the show, the two talked about lots of things from marriage to sharing cooking tips. It was during this chat that Chigul opened up about what led to her divorce, and what her previous marriage was like.
According to her, she was too young when she got married. She stated that at the time she was not ready to settle down, but the thought of what to do next with her life after school had brought the prospect of marriage. She expressed that if she had been more mature like she is now, she believes she would still be married.
Chigul further stated that she learned that allowing a man to be a man and take charge is what should happen in a marriage. She said: “I think in retrospect, looking back at and thinking about it now, I think I wasn’t prepared as I thought I was, you know you sort of plan your life, you know you say when I finish school, what next? Marriage and then you go along that path and then you get into it and you are like, nobody told me about this path, nobody told me about how difficult it could be.
Thinking about it now, I’m more matured now and I think if I knew then what I know now, we would probably still be okay. There are so many things that I would have changed. I learned about men and that word called ego and allowing a man to be a man and sort of allowing someone to take charge because that, in my opinion, is literally what they should do.”
Johnson also shared some details about her married life. She explained that despite being married for almost eight years, she and her husband have had their share of ups and downs. The actress said: “I am married, for seven years going to eight years now and trust me, it’s not been easy. There are happy times, dancing times and the crying times. The crying times, people are not there to see but the smiles are the ones they get to see.”
