Claudia Cardinale (born Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale) was born on 15 April 1938 and raised in La Goulette, where French, Tunisian Arabic, and the Sicilian were her native language, but it turned out that she never learned how to speak Italian until she had already begun to be cast for Italian films.
She was raised by both parents, her mother, Yolande Greco, was born in Tunisia, and her father, Francesco Cardinale, a railway worker, was born in Gela, Sicily. She also had a sibling, one to be precise, Blanche Cardinale her sister whom she schooled and studied along with.

He established Videos Cinematografica in Turin in 1946, which initially produced short and documentary films, and renamed later in 1946, to Cristaldifilm.
Some of Cristaldi’s most successful films internationally were The Name of the Rose and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. (The former winning a César and two BAFTAs, and the latter winning several BAFTAs, the Grand Prix at Cannes, and Best Foreign Language Film at the 62nd Academy Awards).
It is during the 1950s, that he worked with directors and screenwriters such as Francesco Rosi, Pietro Germi, Mario Monicelli, Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, and Giuseppe Tornatore. Speaking of his married life, he has married twice, where he was first married to Carla Simonetti with whom he had a son, Massimo is his name but, he applied to the Vatican to annul his marriage.
He mentored Claudia Cardinale through her own film career, producing many of her films, for a long time, and in the process, the affection between them grew and in 1966, he lived with the actress. Now, the marriage was not formal. The actress says that the Cristaldi threw a marriage party, and so she denies the fact that he married her.
The couple lived together until they divorced in 1975. His second wife was an Eritrean actress Zeudi Araya, whom he married in 1983, and she acted as starring in several Cristaldi-produced films.

Claudia Cardinale’s career started off since her young age when she shot short films under a French director, René Vautier, Anneaux d’Or. The film made her popular locally, and she was spotted by several directors too. At the age of 19, she competed for the “Most Beautiful Italian in Tunisia” contest, which she won and was offered a trip to the Venice Film Festival where she got herself the first film job. She became famous in Italy, following a film, Luchino Visconti ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS of 1960.
In 1963, she acted Luchino Visconti’s LEOPARD and Fellini’s 8½, two outstandingly significant film classics. There is also the famous CARTOUCHE by Jean-Paul Belmondo. In the same year, her appearance and unique acting ways went beyond Italy and she became a star after shooting PINK PANTHER. After a few years, the actress proceeded to Hollywood to shoot; BLINDFOLD of 1965, LOST COMMAND of 1966, THE PROFESSIONALS of 1966, THE HELL WITH HEROES of 1968 and the cult epic western by Sergio Leone ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST of 1968, an American-Italian co-production with Jason Robards, Charles Bronson, and Henry Fonda.
In her career, she partnered herself with filmmakers,m the likes of Marcello Mastroianni, Franco Nero, Burt Lancaster, Sean Connery, Rock Hudson, Alain Delon, Anthony Quinn, John Wayne, and David Niven. She returned to Europe, where she acted IL GIORNO DELLA CIVETTA (1968), which brought her to the David di Donatello Award for the best female role, and A GIRL IN AUSTRALIA of 1971.
