Clive Wood – First Blog
Updated: 18 June 2018
Welcome to my first blog as your new President.
I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue to develop the section over the coming months and years.
We had a tremendous weekend in Pitlochry Scotland, at the National Council Meeting, when we said our thanks to our Immediate Past President, Mick Luke, for the significant contribution he has made to the development of the Section during his time on the Executive, both as Vice President and President.
My award of Honorary Life Membership to him reflected our gratitude for his service.
Having given up the post of Vice President with the professional portfolio, I was delighted to announce, following an election process, that Steve Bretherton will join us on the executive team and has kindly agreed to continue to develop the professional portfolio.
I don’t want to say too much more about the NCM as I know it will be covered in some depth in the next Police World which will be out shortly.
I was pleased to receive a presentation from Martin Turner BTP Region 9, who has kindly taken on developing the Young Members Forum in line with the recruitment and retention strategy, to ensure we as an Association remain current and relevant to the full spectrum of the police family, both serving and retired.
Martin together with a small team of volunteers from around the country has shown great enthusiasm and motivation in starting to develop a clear message to encourage recruitment of younger members, reminding them of the many benefits of membership, including the professional development opportunities at Gimborn, the possibility of Arthur Troop scholarships, the Lincoln Award and a number of other UK based and international opportunities, which we try to support every year.
Another area I am keen to support and develop is our communications as an association. If you are a Facebook user I would encourage you to join the UK Facebook group. This will allow you to get instant updates on what’s happening both here and abroad that might be of interest to you.
I also encourage you to sign up to the daily news available as an email, giving you the headlines of the latest news on the website which keep you up-to-date without overloading your inbox. Try it out and see how you get on.
There are many other communication tools which we need to start to explore and VP Sean Hannigan, whilst continuing with his Cultural portfolio, has kindly offered to assist me in developing the comms strategies going forward. Sean thank you for that.
Finally for this month I wanted to echo the words of our Immediate Past President, during his last blog, and thank you for being a member and thank you for your support. We are all members of a truly unique association which I believe delivers excellent value for money.
So until next time
Yours in friendship
