Rock Music
Joye grew up in quite a financially struggling family, which forced him and his brothers to work to make ends meet. His first job was jewelry salesman back in 1951 after he left school.
Six years later, Col and his brothers started playing rock and roll dances in movie theatres in Sydney, Australia. With time, more people joined the Jacobsens, and eventually, they formed the KJ Quintet band.
Joy Boys
KJ Quintet band secured regular gigs at a hotel in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney which prompted Entrepreneur Bill McColl to offer KJ Quintet a spot on his ‘Jazzorama’ concert in Oct 1957. The band changed their name to Col Joye and the Joy Boys.
Accident
Joye continued to record and perform until suffering a debilitating accident in the early 1990s. Now the director of Jacobsen Entertainment Ltd, he has recently donated over 1200 items to the National Film and Sound Archive and maintains a strong public presence.
