He has also been awarded five Emmys, including three for Best Television Weathercaster in Texas in 2004, 2005, and 2009.

Dan worked in the Techniques Development Lab performing case studies on statistical forecast products derived from the output from computer models in the National Weather Service for a period of two years(1988-1990). He as well worked as a reporter at WECT TV for a period of four years.

There he worked as a meteorologist and reporter. He joined WTVD-TV where he worked for a period of 3 years (1994-1997). He worked as a weekend meteorologist and environmental reporter/ He as well worked as a staff meteorologist at WJLA-TV for a period of 6 years (1997-2003).
