Danny DeVito, born Daniel Michael DeViot Jr., is an American actor and filmmaker. He gained fame and recognition following his performance of taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma in the TV series “Taxi”, for which he won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award. Apart from this, he has played numerous roles in a lot of notable films like Tin Men, Throw Momma from the Train, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ruthless People, Man on the Moon, Terms of Endearment, among others.
Along with acting, he has done voice-over roles for various characters in such films as Space Jam, Hercules and The Lorax. Over the years, he has also directed, produced and appeared in many films as well. Recently, he has been starring in the sitcom “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

In his early theatre days, he performed with the Colonnades Theatre lab at the Eugene O’Neil Theater Center and appeared in plays produced by the Westbeth Playwrights Feminist Collective. He began gaining fame in 1978 after playing as Louie De Palma in the hit TV show “Taxi”. After this, his career in film and TV became more successful, starting with roles in 1983’s “Terms of Endearment”, the romantic adventure “Romancing the Stone”, and its 1985 sequel, “The Jewel of the Nile”. In 1987, he made his feature-directing debut with the dark comedy “Throw Momma from the Train”, alongside Billy Crystal and Anne Ramsey.
Although generally a comic actor, DeVito expanded into dramatic roles with “The Rainmaker”, “Hoffa”, “Jack the Bear”, “L.A. Confidential”, “The Big Kahuna”, and “Heist”. He has shown some interest in documentaries and in 2006 partnered with ‘ClickStar’, and hosts a documentary channel called “Jersey Docs”. He made his Broadway debut in a Roundabout Theatre Company revival of the Arthur Miller play “The Price” as Gregory Solomon and was nominated for a Tony Award for the performance.
He has become a major film and TV producer. Through ‘Jersey Films’, a production company founded by him and Michael Shamberg, he has produced many films, including Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Erin Brockovich, Gattaca, and Garden State. Along with all this, he also directs films and TV shows and began with “The Ratings Game” in 1984. In 1986, DeVito voiced the Grundle King in “My Little Pony: The Movie” while his wife, Rhea Perlman, voiced Reeka the witch.
He hosted the last Saturday Night Live episode before the year 2000. He earned a 2004 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for an episode of “Friends”. He garnered a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame for his works in television in 2011.
