Daryl Impey Biography
Daryl Impey is a South African professional road cyclist who was the first ever person to win back to back titles 2019 Tour Down Under. He rides for UCI WorldTeam Mitchelton–Scott. Impey sprinted to victory on stage nine of Tour de France 2019.
He started racing with his mountain bike as a 13-year-old in 1997 and later turned his attention to road cycling in 2000. Impey is also 8 x SA ITT Champion and has just won his 2nd national SA Road championship title, being the first ever person to do the double SA Road Race and ITT in his country.

Daryl Impey Career
He joined Team RadioShack in 2010 after riding for the South African team Barloworld in 2008. He has initially signed for 2011 with the Australian team called Pegasus, but was forced to seek employment elsewhere after that team failed to secure a UCI license.
He joined GreenEDGE for the squad’s inaugural season in 2012 after riding for MTN–Qhubeka and Team NetApp in 2011. In April 2012, he won a stage of the Tour of the Basque Country before making his Grand Tour debut at the Giro d’Italia in May. He also became the first South African ever to lead the Tour de France in 2013.
On returning, he won he Tour of Alberta by a single second thanks to his victory in the last stage, which gave him enough bonus seconds to overtake Tom Dumoulin. He confirmed his good form a couple of days later by taking the fourth place on the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec.
He had to abandon the Tour de France in 2015 after being involved in a massive crash on the third stage. Impey was named in the start list for the 2015 Vuelta a España.

In July 2014, he announced that he had tested positive for the banned substance Probenecid at the South African road championships in February, though he denied any wrongdoing. He was finally cleared of the doping charges at a hearing in August 2014, which accepted his explanation that the Probenecid had entered his system after ingesting contaminated gel capsules he had bought at a pharmacist.
