Prior to serving at WMAQ, he served at WROC-TV in Rochester, New York as a news anchor and an investigative reporter. From 1990 to 1992, the reporter was the Raleigh bureau chief at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina.

He covered a story called “Selling Innocence” which led to the arrest and conviction of a child sex offender who was running a child modeling website.
