David played for the Chaminade College Preparatory School team while in high school. He was a McDonald’s All American and in 2001 he won the Slam Dunk competition. The Parade magazine also named her a first-team high school All-American.

David played for the University of Florida from 2001 to 2005. In 2002, as a freshman, he was named to the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) freshman team by the conference’s coaches.
