Dawn Steele was born in Glasgow and relocated to Milton of Campsie in 1982. She attended Kilsyth Academy from roughly 1987 to 1993 and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow from 1994 to 1998, while working as a waitress in the Rogano Restaurant.
In July 1998, she graduated with first-class honors and was awarded the silver medal at the RSAMD. Her most noteworthy role was as Alexandra “Lexie” MacDonald in the BBC drama Monarch of the Glen, which aired between 1999 and 2004.
