Roter started her acting career in 1959 with her first role on Ronald Reagan’s General Electric Theater as a little French-speaking girl. Later, she was sent to a Brussels, Belgium school for the 1961-62 academic year. After her father became the executive director of the Santa Monica Playhouse, he gave Roter progressively bigger parts in every play they produced until she reached starring role status.
In 1965, Roter left school after her junior year at Venice High School in the west side of Los Angeles and accepted the role at the start of The Virginian’s fourth season for NBC as Judge Garth’s niece, Jennifer Sommers. After NBC changed her first name to Diane, she remained in the role of Jennifer for twenty-five episodes from 1965 to 1966.
Apart from her career as an actress, Roter has taught acting, mime, and movement in numerous private classes and schools. Furthermore, She has been an art critic and a journalist in many newspapers.
