Dionne Stax Interview
What is your favorite CD?
I do not have a favorite CD. But in the car I currently like to listen to the English soul singer Michael Kiwanuka.
What is your favorite song and when do you usually save it?
My favorite secret enjoyment is the song “Why tell me, why” by Anita Meyer. I ask this in the pub.
Do you ever play music just before the recordings?
No, I still read my texts before the broadcast. I am also still available for editing. Since of course I also belong to the editors.
How important is music in your life?
I like music around me. I would not want to be without it. I used to play flute myself. Now I no longer practice musical instruments due to lack of time.
Who is your favorite singer / singer and / or group?
Today I do not really have a favorite. I used to be a huge fan of rock band Bon Jovi.
Who would you like to sing a duet with?
I do not want anyone to do that, haha.
What is your favorite sport? And do you also practice a sport yourself?
To be honest, I am not so fond of sports. Only to the European Championship and World Cup. And to volleyball. I like watching volleyball because I am there used to do it yourself. I now do fitness and kickboxing.
We rarely see you as a participant in other programs. Are you being asked for this?
In the past I have been asked to participate in programs such as “Expedition Robinson” and “Wie is de Mol?”, But I do not see that to sit. I am a journalist and presenter and have already been able to make beautiful programs. My intention is to get me even further into it to develop. I now do a lot of my programs for people, but would like to do more MET people.
Do you have an example in journalism yourself?
Presenter Sonja Barend who retired in 2006 I have always found great. And International is that journalist Barbara Walters who retired in 2014 at the age of 85. She was still active as a journalist at a very old age. Yet neither of them are those that ensured that I myself also went into journalism. That had everything to do with my own curiosity about the world.
In 2016, apart from King Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima, you also interviewed the princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane. How did you experience this?
It was, of course, just my job. However, I was told in advance that I could not ask the princesses anything. When it turned out to be possible, I was pleasantly surprised. I received a signal from the Royal Couple that I could ask them a few questions. If I did not get that signal I would not have done it either. So it was really all spontaneity.
At what point in your career are you the most proud and / or do you keep the best memories?
Is that only one thing? I am actually proud of several things. Like the political debates that I have. The first time was the Debate Municipal elections on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. I have no problem with my own opinion for me. As a journalist that does not matter. I am also very proud of my very first live broadcast.
That was on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 the terrorist attack on it headquarters of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris in France. I did that from 00.00 to 06.00. So I was 6 hours for that busy. You will be thrown into the deep, but I do not mind. In fact, I think that’s something. Finally, I am also proud of the documentary series “Lady Di & Dionne” that I made this year.
Can you explain why you decided to make the documentary series “Lady Di & Dionne”?
That was a joint idea, from the producer and myself. Diana died on 31 August 1997. That is already 20 years ago. We wanted to so make something to reflect on it again. That is why the documentary was broadcast in August 2017.
Twenty years after the death of Diana. We then approached people with whom they were involved at the time and we received a lot of positive reactions. I did notice that with many people I interviewed because of Diana, that these were friends who had used the ‘friendship’ with Diana to become better of it themselves.
That thought I’m so sad. There was a woman from the BBC who wanted to speak to us, but she was a real friend of Diana. She got pretty memories, but also saved the necessary for themselves. He did not hang the dirty laundry outside and I think that is the way it should be friends.
In 2017 you ran the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse for the ninth time. How did the fascination for the Nijmegen Four Days Marches originate from you?
I grew up on it. The distance between Boxmeer and Nijmegen is only about 21 kilometers. My uncle already has the Nijmegen Four Days Marches Walked 29 or 30 times. I would not want to walk the Nijmegen Four Days Marches with my parents. I’m running like that, dude, haha.
The women walk 40 kilometers, while the men walk 50 kilometers. But, to be honest, running is a side issue. It is such a special event. Cozy and it has the necessary togetherness. Everyone helps each other. On the last day my parents wait for me before the finish. Then we dive with his three in the nearby cafe to drink a beer with the three of us. That has become a tradition, haha.
In October 2017 you presented together with Lex Gaarthuis for Radio 10. How did you experience this?
It has been the case for a while that every day several people present themselves. With the radio you work much faster than with TV. But I knew one little that awaited me, because when I was doing an internship at the NOS in the past, I also worked on the editorial staff of the radio of the NOS.
This was from 2012 to 2013. The radio of the NOS was news, while Radio 1 was of last music. That is so very different and can not be compared with each other. It was also only once. Yet it was nice to agree.
What can we expect from you in the future in showbizz?
For the time being, I will continue to present the NOS Journaal. There will also be a second season of “Van Inschatbare Waarde”.
