Eddie Cheever is a famous American former racing driver who has raced for almost 30 years in Formula One, CART, sports cars, and the Indy Racing League. Cheever won ten sports car races for Jaguar while still driving in Formula One from 1986 to 1988. He went to the US to drive for Chip Ganassi Racing in the CART series in 1990. Throughout his first attempt at the Indianapolis 500, he finished eighth and was named the race’s Rookie of the Year, as well as CART’s Rookie of the Year.

He qualified second for the race and finished fourth in 1992. He scored a total of four podium finishes in the series but never won. Driving for A. J. Foyt’s team, Cheever was almost winning at Nazareth in 1995; he was leading the race on the last lap when he ran out of fuel.
