Emily Goss Actress
Goss played Jennifer, the main character in The House on Pine Street, in 2014. The film was Goss’s breakthrough role, and after filming, he recalled, “When I returned from Kansas, I told my friends in Los Angeles, “If nothing else happens, THAT just happened.” That’s all I’ve got. It is still the case.”
The film premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival, and Goss’ performance as Jennifer earned her three Best Actress awards and one Best Actress nomination on the American festival circuit. The film’s directors, twin brothers Austin and Aaron Keeling, were a year behind Goss at USC; however, while the Keelings had seen Goss’s student films, they had not met. The cast and crew had lived in the titular house while filming.
She described living in the house as “like living in a museum,” despite the fact that it was built in the 1840s. In the film, she also performed her own stunts while wearing a pregnancy prosthetic.
She also received two Best Actress nominations, including one for Best Supporting Actress from the IFS Film Festival, for her role in the 2018 film Snapshots as Louise, a poetry enthusiast who is the 1960s lover of a younger Rose (Shannon Collis).
One factor that compelled Goss to audition was her knowledge that the director, Melanie Mayron, was involved with Jane the Virgin, a TV show that Goss admits she is a “big fan” of; when she went to do a chemistry read for Snapshots, she was starstruck to be facing the film’s director, who had played Professor Donaldson from Jane the Virgin.
In the 2019 lesbian-themed holiday romantic comedy Season of Love, directed by Christin Baker and distributed by Tello Films, Goss played the character Iris, who falls in love with Mardou (Laur Allen). Iris and Mardou were one of three lesbian couples featured in the film, which was billed as “the first queer women-centric holiday romantic comedy movie” by its creators.
Emily appeared in the 2021 social media horror film Shook, which was released on the Shudder streaming service. Goss will make her directorial, producing, and writing debut with the short film A Little House in Aberdeen, in which she will also star.
The film tells the story of Britney, a woman who, uncertain about her future, has an abortion and talks about her life in a “stream of consciousness” manner with her doctor during the procedure. Film Independent is crowdsourcing the short film, which will reunite Goss and her Season of Love co-star Laur Allen.
