Charley Webb Baby News: Emmerdale stars Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden plan another baby after surprise wedding
Emmerdale couple Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden have confirmed that they plan to expand their family with a third child following their recent surprise wedding. The pair sprung an impromptu ceremony on their friends and family after a nine year engagement, with Charley’s proud brother Jamie Lomas giving her away. Charley and Matt, who play Debbie Dingle and David Metcalfe respectively in the soap, already have two children together – Buster, aged 7 and Bowie, aged 2. But Charley has admitted that she doesn’t want to leave the gap as wide between her second and third child. Speaking to OK! Magazine, the star was asked whether they are going to have another baby and she responded: ‘I think so, but, again, it’s that thing of not putting too much pressure on ourselves. But we want a smaller gap between Bowie and our third child.
‘I certainly didn’t want to be pregnant at our wedding, so we were always going to wait until after that.’ Matt added: ‘We’d love more kids, and we love the hectic-ness of having kids. We had Buster only a couple of years into our relationship, and we’d like to keep that madness going. We love having children around.’
The couple began dating in 2007 after meeting and working together on the show. Both are currently involved in major storylines in the show with Debbie having been partially responsible for the acid attack on Ross Barton and David about to discover the troubled past of his wife Tracy Shankley.
Emmerdale’s Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden talk about health fears for baby Bowie – after “horrendous” birth
Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden from Emmerdale haven’t long been parents to baby Bowie – he was born on December 18 – but they’ve already done a magazine shoot to celebrate his arrival.
Because it wouldn’t be a celebrity birth if there wasn’t an interview a few weeks later.
Baby Bowie is the couple’s second child – they’ve already got Buster, five – but that didn’t mean that things were any easier second time round as Bowie faced health problems that caused a lot of worry.
Charley explained OK! that she had to be induced after her waters broke but she failed to go into labour.
Although she was having “horrendous” continual contractions, the soap actress managed to stay calm throughout the birth.
She said: “Apparently I didn’t make a sound, even when Bowie came out. We were chatting most of the way through it. Matthew kept going on about getting coffee!”
However things got more stressful after Bowie was born when he struggled to keep down any food that he was taking in.
Charley explained: “He was bringing up all of his feed. It didn’t seem normal – it was like extreme reflux. He was projectile vomiting… it was awful.
“I was reading things on Google and when you don’t know what’s going on it’s not very nice at all. Then my milk started drying up, probably from the stress, so he wasn’t getting enough feed… it was a bit of a nightmare.
“[He] lost so much weight when he was first born, which was the biggest worry. He kept losing it for the first two weeks. It was horrible. I’ve never been more stressed or worried in my life.”
Luckily, things are now improving with Bowie – who’s now taking formula feed instead of breast milk and his reflux has significantly calmed down.
Weirdly, the couple also revealed that Bowie WASN’T named after the late David Bowie – though they’re fans of his music, it was sheer coincidence that the singer died just three weeks after they named their son, and they picked the name because: “we just both loved it”.
Charley and Matt rekindled their romance in 2013 after a brief split.
Matt said: “It was never a permanent split, we just needed some time apart. Sometimes life just gets on top of you. We had a terrible two-year-old at the time and needed time to look at what we had but it was the best thing we could have done.”
