Cheryl Cole (Cheryl Ann Tweedy) is a an English singer, songwriter and television personality who rose to fame in 2002 after winning a place in Girls Aloud, a girl group created through ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals. In April 2009, she began a solo career while still the group and released four studio albums by 2014 which collectively produced ten singles, including five UK number-ones.

She has the second most UK number-one singles for a British female solo artist with five records, behind Jess Glynne, who has seven.

Cheryl Cole Parents | Family

Cheryl Ann Tweedy comes from a family of five and she is the fourth child of Joan Callaghan and the first of her two children with Garry Tweedy. Cheryl’s mother was married before she met Cheryl’s father to the father of Cheryl’s three elder siblings. Her parents were together for more than a decade but they separated when she was eleven years old.

Cheryl has been married twice and had three relationships. In September 2004, she began dating England and Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole and in June 2005 they announced their engagement. Their wedding ceremony was held at Barnet, north west London on 15 July 2006. However, on 23 February 2010, Cheryl announced that she was separating from Cole, and on 26 May, she filed for divorce at London’s High Court citing “unreasonable behaviour” from her estranged husband. The divorce papers state that Cole admitted being unfaithful to Cheryl with a number of other women. She was granted a decree nisi on 3rd September. She continued to use her married name, but later began using the mononym Cheryl for her music releases.

After her separation from Cole, Cheryl met French restauranteur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini and after three months of courtship, they got married on 7th July 2014. They later divorced and was granted a decree nisi from Fernandez-Versini on 20 October 2016.

She got into another relationship and began dating singer Liam Payne in early 2016. The two first met in 2009 when Liam auditioned on The X Factor back. They have a son who was born on 22 March 2017. Cheryl and Payne however announced that they had ended their relationship in July 2018.

Cheryl got a son on 22 March 2017: Bear Grey Payne. The boy is also Liam Payne’s son, her now ex-boyfriend.

She began sequence dancing at the age of four, before joining The Royal Ballet’s summer school at the age of nine. She occasionally appeared doing dance recitals on different television shows in the UK, such as Gimme 5, in 1993.

In 2002, she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals, which aimed to create a boy band and a girl group to compete for the Christmas Number One spot on the UK Singles Chart. She sang “Have You Ever” in her audition, and was one of twenty contestants (ten girls and ten boys) chosen as finalists by judges Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell.

On 30 November 2002, she was the first contestant to qualify for the girl group, joining Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh to form Girls Aloud, following the final public vote. The group’s debut single “Sound of the Underground” peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the 2002 Christmas Number One over boy band One True Voice’s “Sacred Trust/ After You’re Gone”. Girls Aloud held the record for the shortest time between being formed as a band and achieving a number one single.

In May 2003, ‘Girls Aloud’ released their debut album Sound of the Underground which entered the charts at number two and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) later the same year. In 2009, ‘Girls Aloud’ took a hiatus in the pursuit of solo projects.

In April 2009, she started working on solo material,and her debut album, 3 Words, was released in the UK on 26 October. The album spent two weeks at number one.

Cheryl Cole X Factor

In 2008 she replaced Sharon Osbourne as a judge for the fifth series of The X Factor alongside creator Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh. She was given the girls category (made up of female solo contestants between 16 and 25) and subsequently ended up as the winning judge when Alexandra Burke was crowned the winner of series five on 13 December.

In 2009 she returned for the sixth series and was given the boys category (made up of male solo contestants aged 16 to 25). She was the winning judge for a second consecutive year when Joe McElderry won on 13 December.In 2011, Cheryl joined Cowell, L.A. Reid, and Paula Abdul on the judging panel of the American version of The X Factor. After a three-week stint she departed the series. Cowell said that the reason why she left was because he offered her a place on the 2011 series of the UK version and he felt that she would have been more comfortable there.

In December 2012, Cheryl sued the American producers of The X Factor for $2.3 million (£1.4m). She received $1.8 million (£1.1m) for the first season, and then sued for $2 million (£1.25m) for the second season, plus additional damages. In November 2013, Cheryl won for her settlement, for an undisclosed amount between her and producers Blue Orbit.

In 2014, she returned as a judge on the UK version of The X Factor for its eleventh series, signing a £1.5 million contract. She was selected to mentor the girls category, and she chose Chloe Jasmine, Stephanie Nala, Lauren Platt and Lola Saunders for the live shows. Nala and Jasmine were eliminated in week 2 and Saunders in week 4, while Platt finished fourth. In 2015, Cheryl returned to The X Factor for its twelfth series. She was selected to mentor the groups category for the first time and chose 4th Impact, Alien Uncovered and Reggie ‘n’ Bollie for the live shows.

Cheryl Cole Autobiography

Cheryl: My Story is an autobiography written by the British recording artist Cheryl, who was known at the time as Cheryl Cole, co-written with Rachel Murphy. It was published by Harper on 11 October 2012. In it, she discusses her childhood and her rise to fame as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud as well as her volatile marriage with the footballer Ashley Cole. She also discusses her life-threatening battle with malaria and her relationship with The X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

While Cheryl was the subject of criticism for some of the book’s content, Cheryl: My Story was well received by entertainment critics, who complimented the candid nature of the autobiography. It topped The Sunday Times Bestseller list, selling an average of 2,000 copies a day in its first five months of release.

Cheryl Cole has a huge floral tattoo covering her entire lower back and buttocks. She said that the tattoo has a deeper meaning but she also loves the way it looks.

Cheryl also has other tattoos: Tweety bird on her butt, butterfly and tribal design on her lower back, a single rose on her butt, treble clef and rose on her thigh, Maori tribal design on her hand, “Mrs C” on her neck and a red heart on her finger.
