Daniel Küblböck DSDS
In late 2002, Küblböck participated in the first season of ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’ (DSDS), the German version of Pop Idol. He became third by the end of the season.
Daniel’s androgynous public personality with his distinctive Bavarian dialect, was regarded by many Germans as a carefully cultivated media image of der schräge Daniel (“Wacky Daniel”). Tabloid newspapers reported that he loved wearing feminine clothes, using cosmetics and collecting perfumes and incense. This appearance is what made him popular despite his high-pitched voice not being considered good.

Daniel Küblböck Career
After his participation in Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS), he signed a contract with BMG and by June 2004 he had released four singles and one album. His singles were quite successful. He then appeared in Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus! (the German version of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!), after which his later releases proved less popular.
In August 2004, a flop motion picture titled Daniel – Der Zauberer (Daniel The Wizard) was released. Daniel was starred in the motion picture as a fictionalized version of himself and was directed by Ulli Lommel. It was critically panned and is now regarded as one of the worst films of all time. This is what led to the end of Daniel’s popularity as a media star as it also bombed at the box office.
In 2003, he was voted as the most annoying personality by the viewers of the German Tabloid TV channel Pro7 and the second most annoying person in 2004.
By 2006, the androgynous Daniel was gone and with shorter hair and a deeper voice, he experienced a rise in popularity. There were mixed reviews regarding his second album with some infusion of German pop-rock into the songs. His appearance on the popular dinner party show Das perfekte Promi Dinner (“The Perfect Celebrity Dinner”) established him as a more audience-friendly personality.
Throughout his short-lived career, he appeared in several competitions like: the sixth season of the German version of Big Brother in 2005, the eighth season of the German version of Let’s Dance in 2015 (sixth place overall with Otlile Mabuse, his dancing partner). He also wanted to participate in the German national final for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with his new song Be A Man, but was rejected by the jury.

Daniel Küblböck Interview
Daniel Küblböck: That’s why I’m back on TV
The singer, who split the nation in 2003 when Germany seeks the superstar , is taking part in the new season of Let’s Dance , which will be on RTL on Fridays at 20:15.
Mr Küblböck, you are currently in the middle of dance training, right?
Küblböck: Yes, exactly! I’m just getting out of the rehearsal. My charming dance partner Otlile Mabuse and I have been training diligently for several days. After all, at the first Let’s Dance show on Friday everything will fit. And I can tell you, dancing is really a competitive sport …
What does a workout look like?
Küblböck: Overall, all participants of the season have 50 training hours in advance. And in those, of course, the basics must first of all be learned. It starts with the body tension and posture, goes over the foot position up to the individual steps and choreographies. You are always on the move. And that is exhausting! Also for someone like me, who is quite fit. I also did some sports before I took part in Let’s Dance, but dancing is something else ( laughs ).
You have not been on TV for a long time and have focused more on your musical projects and your business. Why now the return to the TV stage?
Küblböck: Right, I built my company, successfully produced videos, DVDs and CDs, gave concerts and worked on my own music. There were always inquiries from the TV industry, but I refused. I think, especially on German television, it is important not to be too present, and schedule again and again TV breaks. It is not for nothing that the saying goes: Do you want to apply, make yourself rare.
So why now “Let’s Dance”?
Küblböck: To be honest, when the request came a few months ago, I was quite skeptical. After all, I travel a lot because of my company and concerts. Since it is difficult to get everything under one hat. After all, I’m not the type who does half things. It was clear to me that when I participate in Let’s Dance, I want to give it my full attention. Luckily, I have a great team in my company that can handle things in my absence. And when my participation in Let’s Dance became more concrete – the negotiations, also with regard to the fee, went well – I decided to do so. And I have to say, it’s really fun!
Did you also have to take the obligatory dance course in your youth?
Küblböck: Oh yes, who does not know that! We had a school ball in my school in Fürstenzell. And in the run-up we had to learn the standard dances of course: Walzer & Co. That did not really interest me at the time and so I took care of a dance partner too late ( laughs ). In the end, I got a slightly stronger girl assigned … I think the lift figures will be a lot easier this time ( laughs ).
Twelve years have passed since you joined DSDS. What has happened to you personally during this time?
Küblböck: I think it’s obvious that I’ve changed. Alone visually ( laughs ). I think that’s what each of us knows: you see yourself in old photos and you have to smile, maybe you think: “What did I look like?” But I have to say, one thing has always stayed the same: It was important to me then and now, to be authentic and to show Daniel who I am. There are changes to it clearly! That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been managing myself successfully for a long time. I do not want anyone who tells me to keep walking around with glasses and long hair just because that fits my image. Maybe one or two spectators on Friday will be surprised to see me. And I’m looking forward to presenting you the all-new Daniel!
These celebrities start too
These gentlemen fight together with Daniel Küblböck for the Let’s Dance crown: Cora Schumacher (ex-wife of Formula 1 driver Ralf), weightlifter Matthias Steiner, Punkt12 presenter Katja Burkard, player ‘s wife Cathy Fischer, actor Ralf Bauer, former professional footballer Hans Sarpei, the actress and singer Beatrice Richter and Unter Uns- star Milos Vukovic, reality star Detlef Steve, actress Minh-Khai Phan-Thi, presenter Panagiota Petridou and actor Thomas Drechsel also want to put a hot sole on the RTL floor. The one who has the edge in the end and for whom the sweat-inducing training pays off in particular can watch TV viewers on RTL from 8:15 pm on Friday. The show will be moderated by Daniel Hartwich and Silvie Meis.

Canadian Authorities End Search for Body of Missing German Pop Singer Daniel Küblböck
Updated On: 12 September 2018
On Sunday (September 8), German pop singer Daniel Küblböck went missing while on an Atlantic cruise with AIDA Cruises from Hamburg to New York. An eyewitness says that Küblböck leapt from a fifth-floor balcony of the ship into the water near the coast of Newfoundland early Sunday morning, causing the ship to stop and a full search for the artist to begin.
After the ship returned to where Küblböck went missing, the cruise liner handed the case over to Canadian authorities to conduct a full search. But on Tuesday (September 11), the BBC reported that the Canadian Armed Forces had made the “difficult decision” to end the search for the singer’s body, citing the “short survivability time due to the temperature of the water at this time of year.”
The openly gay Küblböck rose to public prominence in Germany after placing third on the German spinoff of Britain’s Pop Idol. The singer reached modest levels of fame in Germany thanks to his time one the show, and went on to have a successful career in music and television, appearing German versions of Big Brother and Let’s Dance and releasing eight albums.
According to an article from British tabloid The Sun, Küblböck had reportedly opened up about his past struggles with mental health in a Facebook post for his official fanclub. “Dear fans, Unfortunately, I still do not feel better mentally and physically,” he wrote. “I have yet to cope with this pain of the past months.”
AIDA Cruises line issued a number of statements via Twitter, asserting that the company would be cooperating fully with authorities, and offering “our thoughts with the family of the missing.”
