Chelsea at risk of losing Eden Hazard to Real Madrid after awful season – Gudjohnsen
Updated: 30th May 2018
That’s the verdict of former Blues striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
The Blues stumbled their way to a fifth-placed Premier League finish, meaning they will not be in next year’s Champions League.
And despite beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final, boss Antonio Conte seems certain to be shown the door at Stamford Bridge.
More of a concern to Chelsea fans however, is the future of talismanic winger Hazard.
The Belgian has long been linked to European champions Real Madrid, and he has spoken of the allure of the Bernabeu and boss Zinedine Zidane.
Gudjohnsen was asked if he expects Hazard to stay at Stamford Bridge and replied: “I hope so.
“I’m afraid, I’m afraid maybe not, but from what I understand he seems very happy.
“He wants to know where Chelsea are going, what direction, which coach is coming, whether Conte is staying or someone else.
“A lot will depend on how Chelsea present the future to him to convince him that he should be there for a long time.
“It’s [been] a disappointing season. Even winning the FA Cup, which is a wonderful day for the fans, a trophy with a lot of history.
“But for Chelsea not to qualify for the Champions League or not be in the top four is always a disappointment. No matter how you look at it.”
Hazard has said he wants to see Chelsea match his ambition in the transfer market, so expect owner Roman Abramovich to get his chequebook out this summer.
